Children of Tomorrow is a start-up non-profit dedicated to furthering primary education, in particular for girls, in countries such as Pakistan and Nepal. They aim to do this through the expanded use of technology (hardware and software) in fully operational schools, thereby improving study efficiency and attendance levels. They are based in the United States, the Netherlands, in Pakistan and in Nepal.
In order for this mission to be successful, they needed to get donors and partners to help capitalise and execute their vision. Founders Tauheed Khan and Debra Ryan approached me to create a website that would appeal to both sides, with a brief that it increase donations and a volunteer base who could help on the ground.
As the primary goal was to raise money to help get the organization off the ground, I decided to have a call to action masthead that would remain in place across the site, serving as a constant reminder to visitors to either donate or join the organization. This call to action is enhanced with a slideshow that shows those whom they will be helping, as well as facts and notes about the value of education in the targeted countries.
The overall design was created with the goal of positioning Children of Tomorrow as a serious organization with a worthy mission. It had to appeal potential donors by showing them that they are credible and viable as a non-profit. This was achieved through a consistent design and messaging throughout the site, as well as utilizing a structure that such donors would be comfortable with.
The financial and serious side of the site is balanced through the use of an engaging primary color palette and contemporary typography, both of which speak to the mission itself. Viewers are encouraged to volunteer and get involved across the site by showing the growing Facebook and twitter communities around the organization, as well as having a section dedicated to signing people up directly.
Across the site, engaging infographics remind viewers of why they should be involved with Children of Tomorrow. Facts and figures compare educational expectancies and consequences for children in Pakistan, the Netherlands and the United States.
The site was awarded with a prestigious Graphic Design USA (publication) USA Web Design Awards for 2011. You can visit the site here.
