This is a website I designed for the Dublin Port Tunnel, the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken in Ireland. The website was built to emphasise the positive aspects of the tunnel on one hand, but also to serve as a place hauliers or other motorists could go to check route maps, traffic updates, and to learn about the safety features and requirements in the tunnel. There had been a lot of opposition to the tunnel during its construction as it was hugely disruptive to traffic and residents around the area, as well as going quite a bit over budget.
The homepage was designed with the general public in mind, with a series of specially shot scenes (some of which I photo-directed) emphasising the benefits that the tunnel would bring to the city’s residents forming the central slideshow.
The overall design portrays the tunnel/website under the city, the clean lines and graphic style emphasising the highly skilled and detailed engineering involved in the tunnels construction. I also designed a suite of icons for all aspects of the important information, since the majority of truck-driving users would not have English as their first language. Clarity and safety were primary concerns for the tunnel information, and the suite of maps further served to help truckers know what to expect on arrival to the tunnel in the road systems, thus helping to prevent crashes and accidents in and around the tunnel.
