This series of photographs were shot as part of the Nestlé Herta Salami re-packaging project. There are 7 different types of salami in total, and each was shot in the manner I felt best complemented that product. I photo-directed all shots, which were taken by Neil MacDougal, a leading Irish food photographer. The food was styled (also on my direction) by Ann Kenny.
1. This is the Low-Fat Salami shot. I wanted to show the meat as part of a healthy Summers lunch, and the colours and tone of this shot capture a sense of a Mediterranean lifestyle which evokes health and vitality.
2. This shot shows the Westfalen Salami. Westfalen is the region in germany which produces the range, and in this shot I wanted to give a sense of a rustic Germanic table. The meat is shown on a block of wood to emphasise its texture.
3. This shot was for the Extra Pepper Salami. Earthy tones emphasise the texture and the green of the asparagus and olives complement the deep red of the meat.
4. This shows the Deli-Style Salami as part of a lunch time sandwich, again coloured and lit to evoke a sense of health along with tastiness for the consumer.
5. This is the shot for the Chorizo, shown very simply as it is a heavy meat and doesn’t require too much with it. The colour of the peppers on the plate highlight the texture of the meat and the green leaves complement the red of the chorizo.
6. This is the Parma Ham shot. This type of meat is usually served at dinner parties as finger food as it is quite light in taste and texture hence I’ve shown it in this type of setting.
7. This shows the Ardennes Salami which is named for the Belgian region in which it is produced. I’ve shot it in a manner which evokes a sense of the Continental lunch board.
